The latest victory also made the Citizens the longest unbeaten team. In the UEFA Champions League (formerly known as the European Cup) with 26 consecutive games.

The previous record holder for the longest unbeaten run in a major European competition was held by city rivals Manchester United. Who went 25 games unbeaten between 2007 and 2009.

Man City’s 26-game unbeaten run includes 18 wins and 8 draws. Scoring 69 goals and conceding just 18.

For Man City’s last defeat came in a 2-1 defeat at RB Leipzig in December 2021.

The Manchester club have started the current term with two wins and a draw. Which was enough to break the long-standing record of Man United on Wednesday night.

The Premier League champions travel away to Sporting CP next time out in the competition. And will be confident of extending their run further. This is an incredible achievement from the English champions and it further cements this Guardiola team as one of the greatest of all time.
